Darren Elkins continued to impress at UFC 158 this past weekend by defeating Antonio Carvalho, and now, the rising featherweight has reportedly been tapped for a bout next month with perennial contender Chad Mendes. The fight will be part of the April 20th, UFC on FOX 7 in San Jose, California, and has materialized due to the injured Clay Guida’s withdrawal.

Although the fight has not been officially announced by the promotion, MMA Junkie is reporting that sources have confirmed the bout is a go.

Elkins (16-2) stopped Carvalho in the first round with strikes to record his fifth straight win. The former lightweight has also defeated Michihiro Omigawa, Tiequan Zhang, Steven Siler and Diego Brandao during this run.

Mendes (13-1) is coming off back-to-back knockout wins over Cody McKenzie and Yaotzin Meza after getting KO’d by champion Jose Aldo in January, 2012.

UFC on FOX 7 will be headlined by a lightweight bout between champion Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez.
