It looks Jared Cannonier will be the next man tasked with halting Derek Brunson’s road back to a title shot.

Since Brunson was stopped by Israel Adesanya in November, 2018, the explosive wrestler has worked his back into title contention via a five-fight, winning streak.

According to a report from MMA Junkie, two sources informed the outlet that Brunson and Cannonier have agreed to fight at UFC 270. The card is scheduled for January 22nd.

Brunson (23-7) is coming off a submission win over Darren Till earlier this month, and is currently ranked #4 in the UFC’s middleweight division.

Cannonier (14-5) recorded a decision win over Kelvin Gastelum in August. That fight marked the first time he had competed since last October when he lost via decision to former champ, Robert Whittaker. Cannonier is ranked #3.

No venue or location for UFC 270 has yet to be announced. There have been reports the UFC is looking at booking a fight between the champion Adesanya and Whittaker in January, but no fight has been announced.
