Recently the former PRIDE champ announced he was coming back to fighting, after hanging up the gloves in 2012. Emelianenko recently attended Q&A session in North Caucasus, and after explaining he still has the desire to fight, he reportedly said the following (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):
“Now this is being negotiated, in particular with the UFC, as well as some other promotions. I think it will soon be finally determined. As for the opponent, I would say that desire must comply opportunities. I would like to face the strongest fighters in the world – UFC champion Fabricio Werdum. Given that over three years, I did not fight during the first fight I would like to get involved, check for myself.”
The Russian star and his camp have negotiated with the UFC in the past, but the parties were never able to come to a deal, and Emelianenko signed with Strikeforce. After going 1-3 with the latter, the decorated Sambo competitor went 3-0 for M-1 Global.
