Report: GSP’s Trainer Firas Zahabi Says Champion Needs to “Neutralize Left Hand” Of Johny Hendricks, “Could Be Georges’ Toughest Fight”
By FCF Staff
As a result of welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and number one contender Johny Hendricks both emerging victorious at UFC 158 Saturday night, the two highly regarded fighters will battle in the near future, barring unforeseen circumstances of course. Although the date of the bout has yet to be determined, the breakdown of the fight has predictably begun, and renowned trainer Firas Zahabi has already weighed in.
While appearing on the latest edition of MMA Fighting’s The MMA Hour, St. Pierre’s head trainer commented:
“If Georges can neutralize left hand, he can do well with him,” Zahabi reportedly noted. “It’s all a matter of styles. It could be Georges’ toughest fight. I always consider the next fight the toughest fight, but until it happens, I’ll tell you after.”
St. Pierre worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Nick Diaz at UFC 158, while Hendricks also scored a UD victory over former interim champ Carlos Condit to entrench a title shot.
Hendricks knocked out both Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann, at UFC 141 and 154 respectively, with his left hand in under one minute.
