Report: Joe Riggs Pulled From UFC FN 51 After Accident With Gun
By FCF Staff
Not long after it was announced that Joe Riggs is returning to the Octagon, it’s being reported that he’s been forced to withdraw from UFC Fight Night 51, after injuring himself with his gun.
Riggs was scheduled to fight Paulo Thiago on October 13th in Brasilia, Brazil, but the UFC recently announced the following (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“We were made aware that newly-signed UFC competitor Joe Riggs was involved in an unfortunate accident last night. While cleaning his permitted firearm (a pistol), the gun discharged, injuring his hand and upper thigh. Riggs was transported to a nearby hospital in Arizona where he is being treated by physicians. We wish Joe a speedy recovery.”
Riggs is reportedly stable and the injuries he incurred were not life threatening.
The 31 year-old (40-14) recently signed with the UFC, after decisioning Mike Bronzoulis in November to win Bellator’s “Fight Master” competition.
The welterweight, who hasn’t competed in the Octagon since 2006, has won six straight, official bouts.
