Report: Jon Jones Not Interested in Rematch With Lyoto Machida, Cites Low PPV Numbers As Reason

Although Lyoto Machida has been tapped by UFC President as the man who will fight the winner of Jon Jones and Dan Henderson, the promotion’s light-heavyweight champ says he’s not interested if he wins at UFC 151.

Jones, who is scheduled to fight Henderson on September 1st, relayed to ESPN.com that he’s not interested in fighting Machida for a second time.  Of course, Jones already scored a second round, technical submission win over Machida in December; however, the champion provided further reasons as to why a rematch doesn’t suit him.

According to Jones, his UFC 140 bout with Machida was the fighter’s “lowest pay-per-view draw of last year” and that therefore, fighting the former champion again “is high risk and low reward.”

The 25 year-old-fighter did credit Machida for his abilities and added that the renowned striker is a “tricky fighter.”

Jones noted that he’s focusing on the powerful Henderson for the time being, and would not commit to whether he’ll outright turn down a bout with Machida, if the situation arises.

Jones is the latest UFC champion to cite PPV draws while expressing his desires as to who he wants to face next. Recently, the camp of middleweight champion Anderson Silva voiced their concerns, as to whether surging contender Chris Weidman can draw enough PPV buys to adequately compensate the champ.

The rising star is currently riding one of the more impressive runs the sport has seen, as Jones has earned consecutive wins over former champions Rashad Evans, “Rampage” Jackson, “Shogun” Rua and Machida.

The 41 year-old-legend Henderson is a former Strikeforce and PRIDE light-heavyweight champion.
