Report: Jorge Rivera Says Alessio Sakara Injured

By FCF Staff

It appears as though for a third time, a scheduled fight between Alessio Sakara and Jorge Rivera has been shelved. The two middleweights are scheduled to fight at the upcoming, August 6th, UFC 133 card in Philadelphia, but according to Rivera, he has received word that Sakara (pictured) is injured and will not compete.

Rivera made the announcement while appearing on The MMA Hour. The middleweight reportedly added during the appearance that he believes he could  face  Constantinos Philippou instead.

A representative from American Top Team, Sakara’s management, would not confirm or deny the reported injury when contacted by FCF. The UFC has not made any announcement yet regarding Sakara.

Sakara and Rivera have been scheduled to fight three times now, however, an arm injury to Rivera and then later a last minute illness to Sakara, have prevented the two from fighting.

Rivera (19-8) hasn’t competed since February when he was stopped by Michael Bisping in the second round at UFC 127. The loss ended the 39 year-old veteran’s three fight winning streak.

Sakara (15-8) is also coming off a loss, as in March he dropped a unanimous decision to prospect Chris Weidman at UFC Live on Versus 3.  The 29 year-old Sakara had scored three victories in a row before the defeat.

UFC 133 will be hosted by Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Arena and will feature a light-heavyweight bout between former champs Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz in the main event.
