Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo have been booked for a rematch at UFC 176, and many would argue that the man who will challenge the featherweight champ on August 2nd, is a different fighter than the one Aldo KO’d in 2012.

When Mendes worked his way to a title shot at UFC 142, the powerful wrestler was coming off four, consecutive decision wins. Since his loss to Aldo, however, four of his five victories have come via TKO or KO.

Now that the rematch is official, Aldo relayed the following to MMA Fighting.com, about whether Mendes has evolved since their first encounter:

“Every fighter seeks evolution. If a fighter thinks he knows everything and stops trying to evolve, he’s lost. He may have evolved, but we are going to watch his fights and see.”

“We will study his fights and see all the details, things that he may have evolved or not. We will study his game and get there to defend the title.”

Aldo, who also added that he’s going to “work hard” to record another knockout at UFC 176, has defended the title three times since stopping Mendes.

UFC 176 will be hosted by the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
