Report: Jose Aldo’s Coach Says Former Champ Was Offered Replacement Spot at UFC 196

Jose Aldo

By FCF Staff

Jose Aldo has repeatedly said he wants another shot at Conor McGregor, but evidently the fighter isn’t willing to do so, if he’s not fully prepared.

Recently it was reported that Rafael dos Anjos will no longer fight McGregor at UFC 196 on March 5th, due to a broken foot. The UFC is reportedly looking for a replacement opponent.

According to a follow up report from Combate, Aldo’s coach, Andre Pederneiras, relayed that the UFC has inquired whether the former featherweight champ wanted to step in for RDA. Pederneiras says they turned down the offer, however, since Aldo is not in fight shape.

Aldo was knocked out by McGregor in 13 seconds at UFC 194 in December.

The UFC has yet to publicly comment on the situation.
