Although Jose Aldo is currently still booked to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 189, it looks as though there are conflicting opinions on the extent of the featherweight champ’s rib injury.

Earlier in the week it was reported that Aldo had injured his ribs while sparring, and that further, the ribs were likely fractured. Late on Wednesday,  however, the UFC announced that Aldo’s ribs were bruised, and that he had incurred damage to his cartilage.

Now, in a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, Aldo’s coach, Andre Pedeneiras, has relayed that Brazilian physicians have concluded the fighter has fractured ribs. According to the coach, American doctors, however, say they are not.

Pedeneiras went on to say that Aldo is receiving treatment for the injury, and that they’ll “check him again next week”. The Nova Uniao instructor also said that Aldo has stopped training, since he needs to rest in order for the injury to heal.

If Aldo cannot fight on July 11th as scheduled, Chad Mendes will face McGregor for an interim title.
