Report: Josh Barnett Will Fight One More Time in Strikeforce
By FCF Staff
While Daniel Cormier will fight again for Strikeforce, due to the rising fighter’s Grand Prix Finale win over Josh Barnett Saturday, it appears as though the latter will also compete for the promotion one more time.
After parent company Zuffa announced last year that Strikeforce’s heavyweight division would be phased out, and that only the GP winner would fight one more time under the promotion’s banner, USA Today is reporting that Barnett will also fight for the company again. Zuffa reportedly informed the outlet of the decision Monday.
Due to the fact that Strikeforce’s top heavyweights have already transitioned over to the UFC, competitors from outside the promotion will have to be brought in to face Cormier and Barnett respectively.
The final heavyweight bouts for Strikeforce won’t take place for a while, however, as both Cormier and Barnett are recovering from hand injuries.
Cormier (10-0) worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Barnett (31-6) in San Jose on Saturday, which handed the former UFC champion his first loss since 2006.
