Kelvin Gastelum

It hasn’t taken the UFC long to find a new opponent for Robert Whittaker, as it’s being reported Kelvin Gastelum has agreed to fight the former champ, April 17th.

Whittaker was originally scheduled to fight Paulo Costa as the upcoming event. But, recently it was reported the middleweight contender has withdrawn, after battling a serious case of the flu.

C. Contreras Legaspi recently reported that Gastelum has agreed to fight Whittaker on April 17th, and MMA Junkie has also confirmed the new match-up with sources.

Gastelum (16-6) is coming off a decision win over Ian Heinisch in February, which snapped a three-fight, losing streak.

Whittaker (22-5) has recorded decision victories over Darren Till and Jared Cannonier, after losing the middleweight title to Israel Adesanya in 2019.

Gastelum was supposed to fight Whittaker in February of 2019, but the latter withdrew the day of the fight, due to a hernia.

The upcoming, April 17th card is currently expected to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
