Florian Weighing in for UFC 131

After Kenny Florian failed to win a UFC belt for the third time earlier this month, losing by unanimous decision to featherweight champion Jose Aldo on October 8^th, the 35 year-old-veteran has announced that he will continue to fight… just not at 145 pounds.

In an interview with The Boston Herald, Florian has revealed that prior to his recent bout with Aldo he felt some effects from his weight cut, and that he plans on returning to the lightweight division.

“I felt it warming up, unfortunately,” Florian said in the report. “I don’t want there to be an excuse because there’s still things I should have executed that I didn’t, but I feel that it’s tough to go in there at a weight class that you’re not sure if you’re going to be 100 percent.”

Florian added in the interview that he believes there are still “exciting fights” for him at lightweight, and that the division’s title is not “necessarily” in his sites, on account of his previous title fight losses to Sean Sherk and BJ Penn.

The former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor and BJJ black belt dropped to featherweight earlier this year, following a unanimous decision loss to Gray Maynard last August, and earned a UD victory over Diego Nunes in June. Florian also reportedly informed the Herald that he plans on taking six months to prepare for his return to the lightweight division.

Florian is 3-2 in his last five fights and holds an overall record of 14-6.
