Report: Miesha Tate’s Hoping for a Raise With New Contract

Miesha Tate

Although Miesha Tate came up short against UFC champ Ronda Rousey in December, the TUF 18 coach knows her drawing power has never been larger as free agency approaches.

Tate, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Liz Carmouche in April, recently revealed she has one fight left on her current contract. After appearing at a “Protect Yourself” event in New York city, which is a campaign to promote safe sex, Tate told MMA Fighting.com:

“I do want to get paid more, of course,” Tate reportedly said, while discussing her pending free agency. “I think my stock’s gone up a lot since fighting in the UFC. I think the contract that transpired when I was still in Strikeforce, transitioning to the UFC, doesn’t reflect what I feel like I’m worth. So that’s a whole process that has to happen.”

Tate has gone 1-2 since joining the UFC in 2013. Prior to facing Rousey, the former Strikeforce champ was stopped by Cat Zingano.

The 27 year-old fighter also reportedly hopes to negotiate a contract extension before she fights again.

Tate was paid $56,000 (including a win bonus) for her recent victory over Carmouche, according to figures that were disclosed by the Florida State Boxing Commission.

Since Zingano injured her knee not long after the fight, Tate went on to coach opposite Rousey on TUF 18, and her profile was raised considerably as a result.
