At the end of the day, Johny Hendricks will still compete for the UFC Welterweight Championship tonight in Dallas, but for a little while Friday, that was in doubt.

Hendricks initially came in at 171.5 pounds for his fight with Robbie Lawler tonight, and as a result, the decorated wrestler had to take extra time to cut the additional weight. According to the fighter’s trainer, the renowned Mike Dolce, the scale they were using leading up to the official weigh-ins was off.

In a follow up report, Mike Dolce told MMA Junkie.com that the issues began after they attended a local gym on Thursday:

“Unfortunately, while we were in the hot tub, and the scale was unattended, attendees of the gym were hopping on and off of it. We think the scale might have been damaged because the weight started reading inconsistently.”

Dolce also revealed that Hendricks did not hit the sauna on Friday to cut the additional 1.5 pounds, but rather, the fighter did some exercises for about 20-25 minutes.

“Bigg Rigg” was 170 on his second attempt, and as a result, is eligible to win the vacant welterweight title tonight at UFC 171.
