Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is reportedly doing well after the legendary fighter had surgery today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to repair torn ligaments in his left elbow. The fighter sustained the injury during his June 8th, UFC on FUEL TV 10 bout with Fabricio Werdum, as a result of the second round armbar the renowned grappler used to win the fight.

The Brazilian publication Tatame.com was the first to report news of the successful surgery.

Following the defeat, Nogueira’s coach Luiz Dorea relayed that the heavyweight’s arm had not been broken; however, a follow up MRI revealed ligament damage.

Noguiera is expected to be sidelined up to eight weeks as a result of the surgery.

The 37 year-old heavyweight has now gone 1-1 since he returned from his submission loss to Frank Mir in December, 2011, when Nogueira had his arm broken by a kimura.

Last October, the Brazilian fought Dave Herman and won the fight via second round, armbar.
