Report: Nate Diaz Says UFC Announced Matt Brown Fight Prematurely

Nate Diaz

Nate Diaz is interested in fighting Matt Brown, but according to the outspoken fighter, the promotion announced the UFC 189 bout before he “agreed to it”.

On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Diaz is returning to the welterweight division and will face Brown on July 11th. Not long after the announcement, however, Diaz posted a tweet that read “nah I’m fighting Pettis.”

When Diaz was contacted by MMA Fighting.com about the tweet, the Stockton fighter claimed he was supposed to meet with the UFC next week to determine his next bout. According to Diaz, he believed he was going to fight long time rival, Anthony Pettis next. The 29 year-old conceded that he wants to fight Brown, and that he’s “open” to the match-up, but that “I don’t like that they made the fight official before we ever negotiated or agreed to it.”

Diaz is coming off a unanimous decision loss to lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in December, and is 2-3 in his last 5 bouts.

UFC 189 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
