Report: Nevada Commission Attempting to Stop Chael Sonnen From Competing at Metamoris 4

Chael Sonnen

By FCF Staff

Although Chael Sonnen is not scheduled to compete in an event that’s sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the organization is reportedly working to stop him from grappling at Metamoris 4.

Sonnen, who recently was suspended for two years after failing two drug tests heading into UFC 175, is booked to grapple Andre Galvao on Saturday. According to reports from MMA Junkie.com and Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter, however, the NSAC is threatening disciplinary action if Sonnen competes at the August 9th event.

The organization has even threatened to fine Sonnen $250,000 per failed drug test, according to the latter report.

Sonnen’s lawyer has apparently challenged the NSAC’s assertion that the retired fighter cannot compete in a grappling event. Metamoris has yet to comment on the situation.
