One week before Alistair Overeem goes before the Nevada State Athletic Commission on April 24th, speculation continues as to what will be the basis for the fighter’s defense, following a pre-UFC 146 drug test which allegedly indicated a 14-to-1 testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio.

After Overeem’s manager reportedly told Inside MMA’s Ron Kruck that the fighter has a reasonable explanation for the tests results, Cage Potato.com is reporting that NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer does not it expect the reason to be testosterone replacement therapy.

While Kizer added that Overeem and his representative’s could still appeal based on TRT, according to him, there has been no mention thus far that the fighter is in fact utilizing such therapy.

Kizer also confirmed that Overeem and his camp have not asked for any additional testing to be done.

Overeem’s alleged TE ratio exceeded the allowable limit of 6-1, and as a result, the fighter’s scheduled May 26th bout with UFC heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos is in jeopardy.

The former Strikeforce champion is currently not licensed to compete in Nevada State.

While exemptions have been handed out by athletic commissions for fighter’s who are undergoing TRT, the process is typically regulated and monitored in advance of a competitor’s scheduled bout.

The recent test was tied to the conditional license Overeem received from the NSAC prior to facing Brock Lesnar in December. Overeem passed drug tests before and after he stopped Lesnar at UFC 141, however, the conditional license was granted with the stipulation that the fighter would face two more random tests.

Overeem’s conditional license for the Lesnar fight expired at the end of 2011.
