Report: NSAC Chairperson Weighs in on Belfort’s TRT Exemption Prospects

Vitor Belfort

By FCF Staff

Vitor Belfort has made it clear he intends to continue his testosterone replacement therapy in preparation for Chris Weidman, but a Nevada State Athletic Commission representative has conceded that may be a problem in that jurisdiction.

Belfort has received clearance for TRT in Brazil, where his last three bouts have taken place, but the punishing middleweight has yet to in the U.S.

The UFC hopes to hold a Weidman-Belfor title fight in Las Vegas in the coming months, however, Belfort tested positive for an anabolic agent in Nevada in 2006. That test result prompted outgoing NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer in the past to say Belfort likely wouldn’t receive a TRT exemption in the state.

In a recent report from MMA Junkie.com, NSAC chairperson Francisco Aguilar relayed that Belfort shouldn’t have a problem receiving a license to fight in the state. Aguilar did note, however, that “The issue is going to come from a TRT exemption.”

The UFC has yet to announce when Belfort will challenge Weidman for the middleweight title. The 36 year-old fighter has locked up a title fight thanks to stoppage wins over Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson.
