Report: NSAC Taps Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson For Random Drug Tests

UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin

By FCF Staff

Current “Ultimate Fighter” coaches Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson, have reportedly been notified by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that they will undergo drug testing before they fight on December 15th in Las Vegas.

The NSAC reportedly informed Carwin and Nelson of the testing Thursday, according to a report from MMA Weekly. As a result, the heavyweights will be required to submit samples within the next day.

The move is nothing for the NSAC. Heading into UFC 146 in May, the commission had Alistair Overeem submit to a random test. The renowned fighter tested for an elevated ratio of testosterone to episterone and was subsequently denied a license to compete at the event.

Carwin and Nelson are scheduled to fight at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The bout will mark the first time Carwin (12-2) has competed since June, 2011 when he lost by unanimous decision to Junior dos Santos. Nelson (17-7), on the other hand, is coming off a first round knockout of Dave Herman in May.
