Report: Phil Davis Out of UFC 133 Bout with Rashad Evans

By FCF Staff

Phil Davis has had the brakes put on his dramatic run in the UFC light-heavyweight division, as according to multiple reports the undefeated fighter has withdrawn from his upcoming August 6th, UFC 133 bout with Rashad Evans due to a knee injury.

The injury, which MMA Fighting reported first, has left the UFC scrambling to find a replacement for Evans approximately three weeks away from the event. Yahoo Sport’s Kevin Iole posted on his Twitter account that Lyoto Machida had agreed to step in for Davis, but then in a follow up ‘tweet’ stated that Machida was not officially in yet, according to UFC President Dana White.

Davis (9-0) continued to impress at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, by working his way to a unanimous decision victory over accomplished veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The NCAA wrestling champion has gone 5-0 to date with the UFC.

Evans (15-1-1) hasn’t fought since last May, when he scored a UD win over fellow former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Evans was originally going to face newly minted champion Jon “Bones” Jones next, but a hand injury to Jones forced the UFC to consider other options.

UFC 133 will be hosted by Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

Stay tuned to FCF more news as it develops.
