Report: Pierce Has Torn Ligament in Ankle After Controversial Heel Hook

Pierce

By FCF Staff

A couple of days ago word surfaced that Mike Pierce had suffered a severely strained MCL in his left knee, due to the heel hook of Rousimar Palhares at UFC FN 29, and now the fighter is reporting that he also has a torn ligament in his ankle. The good news is that doctors are hopeful neither injury will require surgery.

Pierce has relayed the news to MMA Fighting.com, as the MRI results for his ankle were not known earlier in the week. Pierce will be examined once again by his doctors in two to three weeks to see how his injuries are recovering.

The 33 year-old, who had won four straight fights prior to UFC FN 29, was given a 180 medical suspension by Brazilian authorities after the fight. Pierce could fight earlier provided he’s cleared to do so by a doctor.

Palhares, who did not immediately let go of the submission after the referee intervened, has been banned by the UFC. The veteran has said he never intended to injure Pierce.
