After signing as a free agent with Bellator earlier this year, “Rampage” Jackson’s next fight might not be against one of the promotion’s top fighters, but rather, decorated boxer Roy Jones Jr. The boxing match is reportedly being planned by Bellator’s parent company Viacom, and could go down at the end of this year.

The surprising news comes via a report from MMA Junkie.com, which says multiple sources have confirmed the boxing match is in the works. No details regarding when the pay-per-view fight could take place, or at what weight, were confirmed. It also remains to be seen how the bout would be branded, in terms of whether it would fall under the Bellator MMA banner.

The story also quotes a representative from Wolflair MMA, Jackson’s team, saying that the fighter’s camp have been in talks with Jones Jr. for months.

The 35 year-old Jackson has yet to be booked for a bout since he signed with Bellator, following a three fight losing skid to end his last UFC deal.

The 44 year-old Jones Jr. was reportedly in talks with the UFC and Dana White about possibly boxing Anderson Silva. The boxing star attended UFC 162 on July 6th, when Silva was knocked out by Chris Weidman.

Bellator has not made any official announcement regarding the report.
