UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao is in need of a new challenger, following his stoppage win over Urijah Faber at UFC 169, and Raphael Assuncao thinks it should be him.

Assuncao was scheduled to fight Francisco Rivera at UFC 170 on February 22nd, however, the latter has confirmed he’s injured and will not compete.

Speaking via Twitter, Rivera announced: “Sorry guys busted my hand again .. Won’t be fighting”.

In a follow up interview with MMA Fighting.com, Assuncao said he wants a “shot against Barao” and noted he is the only “undefeated bantamweight” who has not received a title shot.

Since dropping down from 145 in 2011, Assuncao has won five straight, and is currently ranked #3 in the bantamweight division. Most recently he worked his way to a split decision win over the #5 ranked TJ Dillashaw at UFC FN 29 in October.

Barao already holds wins over the #1 ranked Faber, #2 Michael McDonald and the #4 positioned Eddie Wineland.
