Although there’s been some talk of a rematch between Renan Barao and TJ Dillashaw, the last man to beat the latter, says he should challenge for the bantamweight title next.

Since Barao had gone undefeated in 33 straight fights, prior to facing Dillashaw at UFC 173, there has been some speculation that the former champ might be awarded an immediate rematch.

In a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, however, Raphael Assuncao made it clear he believes he should face Dillashaw next. Assuncao worked his way to a split decision win over Dillashaw in October, 2013.

“T.J. dominated him for five rounds and even got the TKO in the end,” Assuncao said. “I will never demerit Barao, but I deserve to fight (for the title). My fight with T.J. was way more competitive.”

Assuncao had been expected to face Barao at UFC 173, however, a rib injury forced the surging Brazilian to withdraw. The 31 year-old fighter, who has won six straight, added that he could be ready to start a new training camp in four weeks.
