While it won’t happen anytime soon, there could come a day where teammates and UFC champs Renan Barao and Jose Aldo no longer compete at 135 and 145 respectively.

For some time now, the featherweight champ Aldo has expressed an interest in moving to lightweight, and in particular, facing that division’s champ Anthony Pettis. In a recent interview with MMA Fighting.com, Aldo’s teammate, bantamweight champ Renan Barao, weighed in on whether he might move to featherweight at some juncture.

“That’s up to my coaches Andre Pederneiras and Jair Lourenco,” Barao said, while discussing the possibility of returning to 145, provided Aldo moves to lightweight. “Whatever is best for the team and for me is going to happen. If they want me at 135, I’m staying. If they want me at 145, I will move up. But we’re not thinking about that yet. I have a lot of challenges in my division yet. I’ve defended my undisputed title only once, so I have a lot of work to do.”

Barao is scheduled to face TJ Dillashaw at UFC 173 on May 24th, and Raphael Assuncao is also in the title shot mix, thanks to a six fight win streak.
