Report: Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin to Coach TUF 16

Carwin

By FCF Staff

After battling injuries for the last year, it appears Shane Carwin has his next assignment, as the former heavyweight contender will coach opposite of Roy Nelson in the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

As usual, the two coaches will fight at the conclusion of the season, according to a report from USA Today.com. The live finale will take place in December.

The show begins taping next month and will begin airing in September. TUFC 16 will feature competition in the welterweight division and 16 elimination round winners will become cast members on the show.

Nelson (17-7) is coming off a knockout win over Dave Herman in May, after losing by unanimous decision to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 143 in February.

Carwin (12-2) hasn’t fought since last June, when he dropped a unanimous decision to current champion Junior dos Santos. Prior to that, at UFC 116 in July, 2010, Carwin was submitted by Brock Lesnar.

The heavyweight has been on the sidelines due to neck and back injuries.

Unlike its first season on FX, TUF will no longer feature live bouts on Friday nights and is returning to an all taped format.
