Some observers may not have expected to see Roy Nelson back in the UFC, considering his shaky relationship with Dana White, but not only has the heavyweight resigned with the promotion it’s reportedly a lengthy deal. Since Nelson is 37 years old, it’s possible the highlight reel finisher could close out his career with the UFC.

According to a report from MMA Junkie.com, Nelson’s new contract is for 9 fights. The first one on the deal will take place October 19th, when Nelson fights top ranked contender Daniel Cormier. Nelson’s manager Mike Kogan confirmed the length of the contract to the outlet; however, no financial details were disclosed.

Nelson is coming off a one sided, unanimous decision loss versus Stipe Miocic in June, after stopping Dave Herman, Matt Mitrione and Cheick Kongo in consecutive bouts.

The accomplished grappler currently holds a record of 19-8.

UFC 166 will take place at Houston’s Toyota Center and will feature heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez taking on Junior dos Santos in the main event.
