Report: Scott Coker Says Bellator Will “Sit Back”, Not Pursuing Fedor Emelianenko For Now

Immediately after Fedor Emelianenko announced he’s launching a comeback, many predicted he’d sign with Bellator, but it sounds like the promotion isn’t pursuing the legend.

Emelianenko fought for Scott Coker when he ran Strikeforce, and since the latter is now the President of Bellator, observers noted the promotion might have a leg up on other organizations. In addition, Emelianenko (34-4) has a promotional deal with Bellator, furthering speculation that he would end up fighting for the Viacom owned organization.

Coker recently spoke to MMA Junkie.com and he was asked about Emelianenko. Here is some of what the veteran promoter had to say:

“Let’s let him come back and see how it works out for him, and then maybe we’ll have him fight a couple years down the line, or next year, or whatever. The door is open, but I felt like at this point, Bellator is kind of on a little bit of a roll here. Would he add a lot of value? Yes. But we’re just going to sit back and see what happens.”

Earlier this month, the 38 year-old Emelianenko reported that he is negotiating with several organizations, including the UFC.
