After the Ultimate Fighting Championship recently confirmed that Stephan Bonnar and Dave Herman had failed their post UFC 153 drug test, the promotion has reportedly announced that both men have admitted to taking banned substances. As a result, Bonnar and Herman have verbally accepted suspensions and written disciplinary actions will soon be submitted to the Association of Boxing Commissions.

According to multiple reports about the drug test and subsequent disciplinary action, the length of the fighter’s suspensions were not disclosed.

Bonnar tested positive for an anabolic steroid following his October 13th loss to Anderson Silva, while Dave Merman failed his test due to the presence of marijuana. The heavyweight was submitted by “Minotauro” Nogueira at the event.

The results mark the second time the retired Bonnar has tested positive for a performance enhancing drug, while Herman tested positive for marijuana use last year. Bonnar was suspended for using an anabolic steroid following his 2006 loss to Forrest Griffin.

Herman, on the other hand, was pulled from UFC 136 last October, for testing positive for marijuana metabolites. At the time, the heavyweight cited being around people smoking marijuana as the reason why he failed his test.

The UFC implemented their own drug screening program for the October 13th event, which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where there is no athletic commission.
