Report: Thiago Silva Tests Positive for Marijuana, UFC Announces Six Month Suspension

Thiago Silva

UFC on FUEL TV 6 Win Over Stanislav Nedkov Overturned to No Contest

By FCF Staff

For the second time in his last three fights, Thiago Silva has had a victory changed to a no contest due to failing his post fight drug test. According to multiple reports, the UFC has announced that the light-heavyweight has tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his November 10th victory over Stanislav Nedkov. As a result, Silva has been suspended by the promotion for six months.

In addition, Silva has been ordered to participate in a drug rehabilitation program and will have to pass a pre-fight drug test before he can compete again.

Silva tapped out Nedkov with a third round, arm triangle choke at the UFC on FUEL TV event; however, the result will now stand as a no contest.

A reported press release from the UFC relayed that Silva has admitted to using marijuana and has agreed to entering a rehabilitation program.

The UFC on FUEL TV 6 card took place in Macau, China, where there is no athletic commission in place. As a result, the promotion oversaw all post fight drug testing.

In January, 2011, Silva’s decision win over Brandon Vera was overturned and declared a no contest by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, after he was accused of submitting a fake urine sample.

As a result of today’s decision, the 30 year-old Silva is now winless in his last four fights.
