Although Thiago Tavares got back on track at UFC Fight Night 32 last week, by tapping out Justin Salas in the opening round, it sounds like the veteran lightweight is planning a move to 145. The win over Salas marked the first time Tavares had fought since January, when he was quickly stopped by rising 155ér Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Tavares is not only hoping to fight at the promotion’s February 8th card in Jaragua do Sul, but in a recent report from MMA Fighting.com, the 29 year-old said he plans on on moving to featherweight. If the UFC brass is on board with the idea, then the noted grappler plans to make the drop, as he believes he’ll be “stronger” and “more competitive” at featherweight. Tavare also said he believes he can “easily make 145”.

With the win over Salas, Tavares (18-5-1) has gone 3-2 in his last five bouts and is 5-4-1 in his last 10. Tavares allegedly tested positive for an anabolic steroid following his bout with Nurmagomedov and was suspended for nine months.

UFC FN 32 took place on November 9th in Goiania, Brazil.
