Report: TJ Dillashaw Says He’ll Fight Urijah Faber if Asked, Following TAM Departure

In the past, TJ Dillashaw has said he wasn’t interested in fighting Urijah Faber, but following his departure from Team Alpha Male, it looks like the bantamweight champ wouldn’t turn down the opportunity.

Dillashaw made headlines recently by announcing he’s leaving Sacramento’s TAM to go and train in the Denver region, with the Elevation Fight Team and Duane Ludwig. While both Dillashaw and Faber have said they hope to retain a friendship, the latter and TAM leader has said the champ isn’t welcome to train with the team moving forward.

Since the two are no longer teammates, debate as to whether the UFC might book a bout between them has reached new levels. Dillashaw appeared on the most recent edition of “The MMA Hour”, and while discussing whether he would fight Faber, the champion stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“You know, I didn’t think I would be until Urijah started saying the stuff he did,” Dillashaw said. “He’s the one saying he’s more than willing to fight me. I felt we were a lot closer friends than that, so I put my heart and soul into this team and I thought we were a lot closer than that. I mean, he’s obviously looking for a big fight in his career, and I think I’m…I don’t want to have to do it, but you know, if I’ll be the last statement on his career, if that’s the way it’s got to be, but that’s not really the way I want to do it.”

When asked a follow up if he would in fact fight Faber, Dillashaw said yes, but added it’s “not something I want to do.”

First things first, however; Dillashaw is scheduled to take on former champ Dominick Cruz on January 17th. Faber, meanwhile, will face Frankie Saenz on December 12th.
