Report: Two Time Welterweight Boxing Champ Andre Berto Considering UFC Run

Andre Berto

By FCF Staff

It appears as though another accomplished boxer is interested in securing a UFC bout, as two time welterweight boxing champ Andre Berto has reportedly discussed the possibility with UFC President Dana White.

Berto, whose father Dieusel competed in a 1996 UFC event, has relayed in recent interviews that he’s interested in pursuing a MMA career. In a follow up report from Yahoo, a source close to the UFC confirmed that Berto has discussed his desire to compete in the UFC with White.

Berto’s brother James Edson is a MMA vet, and his sister Revelina is reportedly trying out for the next edition of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

While it remains to be seen whether Berto makes the transition to MMA, or if the UFC would offer him a bout, decorated boxer James Toney was awarded a fight in 2010. The charismatic fighter was quickly submitted by MMA legend Randy Couture at UFC 118.
