After plans to hold UFC 249 in California earlier this month were shut down on account of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s being reported the pay-per-view event will take place in Florida, May 9th.

The UFC planned to host the event at the Tachi Palace Resorts Casino on April 18th. But, various officials spoke out against the plan due to the pandemic, and the card was postponed. Now MMA Fighting is reporting sources have informed the outlet the UFC will hold a card on May 9th in Florida.

The exact location for the planned event has yet to be disclosed, but the report states fighters will fly into Jacksonville before moving on to the official location.

Recently Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that certain sporting events could resume operations, provided the general public does not attend.

The Florida State Boxing Commission has reportedly informed MMA Fighting that it is prepared to regulate events, provided the applicable guidelines are followed.

Tony Ferguson is scheduled to face Justin Gaethje for an interim lightweight title in the headliner of the planned, May 9th card.
