Report: UFC Has Begun Cutting Flyweights in Advance of Closing Down Men’s 125 Division
By FCF Staff
Recently there’s been widespread speculation that the UFC intends to close the men’s flyweight division, and it’s being reported that process has begun.
Prior to Demetrious Johnson’s departure from the UFC, there were renewed rumors the promotion was considering eliminating the men’s 125 division, and that talk spiked after the former flyweight champ left for ONE Championship. More recently FloCombat reported the men’s flyweight bracket is being shut down by the UFC, and that only some flyweights are being given the opportunity to move up to bantamweight.
Flyweight Jose Torres is also reporting that he’s been released by the UFC, as part of the shutdown process, as is Jarred Brooks.
Im the 1st to be let go. I didnt get to finish my UFC contract with 2 fights left because they are cutting most of my division n not giving some of us a chance to bump up n prove ourselves like myself. So now it’s time to move on to bigger and better things. Good luck small guys! pic.twitter.com/lUMijsRoDm
