Report: UFC to Help Fund, Rather Than Oversee, Out of Competition Drug Testing
By FCF Staff
After the UFC announced several months ago that it will be implementing and overseeing out of competition drug testing, the promotion has elected to leave testing in the hands of athletic commissions.
The ZUFFA owned property announced this past summer that it had plans to conduct and expand random drug testing, but UFC President Dana White told media members this week that the company has abandoned those plans. According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, White said the UFC will provide funds to athletic commissions, so that they can oversee more drug testing.
White reportedly went on to add that the UFC’s well documented issues with Cung Le, which saw the promotion rescind its suspension of the fighter, played a part in the company’s recent decision.
Currently, many international jurisdictions do not conduct any type of PED testing, and the UFC has managed its own in those regions as a result. The promotion will reportedly still conduct its own testing in those areas.
