Former UFC fighter Angela Magan is reportedly in a coma, due to complications from an emergency surgery she recently underwent.

The 35-year-old underwent surgery after incurring a back injury in a recent training session, according to a report from MMA Junkie, which cites her coach Gabriel Lamastus. Ultimately it was determined that Magana had Cauda Equina Syndrome .

“She’s in a coma, and we’re waiting to hear some positive news,” Lamastus was quoted saying in the aforementioned report. “The surgery went fine. The problem was anesthesia. It’s very rare that patients react bad to anesthesia, but it does happen, and I guess this is one of those rare cases. But I’m being positive. She’ll be fine, and she’ll wake up. She’s a fighter. I’m just staying positive.”

Magana was expected to fight Kyra Batara at Combate 35 on April 26.

Update: since the initial report, Magan’s manager is reporting that the fighter has improved, and that she is “moving her hands and toes, and blinking her eyes.”
