One of the most experienced fighters in MMA history has announced he’s hanging up the gloves, as 60 fight plus vet Joe Doerksen has announced he’s retiring.

The 37 year-old fighter relayed the news to MMA Junkie.com on Friday, and while doing so, Doerksen stated:

“I did whatever I wanted to do, and after 15 years of competing and doing my thing, I just don’t think it’s fair to put my family through training camps, especially knowing that I’m not really that into it any more,” Doerksen said. “I feel really lucky that I got to do that stuff over the past 15 years and I’m healthy and strong. Now I can devote my energy to being a dad and possibly a coach.”

Doerksen made his pro debut back in 1999, and in the following years, the Winnipeg fighter put together an impressive 51-16 record.

During “El Dirte’s” career he competed for various big stage organizations, including the UFC, the IFL, Sengoku, and the WEC.

Most recently, in September, 2014, Doerksen decisioned Tony Lopez while competing for King of the Cage.
