Although Eddie Wineland remains a top five ranked bantamweight in the UFC, the contender is reportedly assessing his fighting career, after having his jaw broken by Johnny Eduardo.

Wineland was stopped by Eduardo in the first round at UFC FN 40 last weekend, and the fighter underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair his broken jaw. In a follow up report with MMA Junkie.com, Wineland admitted that he’s evaluating his fighting future, after breaking his jaw for a second time.

“I never wanted to go through this again, and now I surely don’t ever want to go through it again,” said Wineland. “It was the most miserable time of my life.”

Wineland furthered that he needs “to step back and look at the big picture” as a result of the injury, which has left him with a wired shut jaw.

The fighter, who also works as a fireman in Indiana, noted that it took him 10 months to recover from the same injury last time.

Wineland’s only other defeat in his last five fights came against champion Renan Barao, who stopped the vet in September, 2013. Prior to facing Eduardo, Wineland scored a TKO win over Yves Jabouin.
