Stipe Miocic has put together a 6-1 record in the Octagon to secure the UFC’s #5 ranking at heavyweight, and if the contender defeats Junior dos Santos on December 13th, he believes a title shot should be next.

Miocic, who has won three straight since he was stopped by Stefan Struve in 2012, will face the former champ at UFC on FOX 13. While speaking to MMA Fighting.com recently about the upcoming fight, the 32 year-old heavyweight had this to say about what he thinks is on the line:

“I mean, wouldn’t you think so? I’d think so,” Miocic said, while discussing whether a title shot should be his, provided he defeats JDS. “Junior is ranked second. That would move me up to be right behind Werdum, so I think whatever happens after that fight, I should get a shot.”

Most recently, Miocic (12-1) quickly took out Fabio Maldonado in May, who was filling in for the injured dos Santos. Prior to the win, Miocic earned back-to-back decision victories over Gabriel Gonzaga and Roy Nelson.

Dos Santos (16-3), meanwhile, hasn’t fought since last October when he was stopped by champion Cain Velasquez in the fifth round. The latter is scheduled to fight Fabricio Werdum on November 15th.

UFC on FOX 13 will be hosted by the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
