Recently Chael Sonnen advised Tim Kennedy to “shut up” and move on from his controversial loss to Yoel Yomero in September, and not surprisingly, the comments have apparently angered the middleweight contender.

In a recent episode of Sonnen’s “You’re Welcome” podcast, the retired fighter said Kennedy sounded bitter about the defeat, and should stop talking about the setback. Kennedy was stopped by Romero in the third round at UFC 178, but not until after he was given extra time in between rounds, and recovered from several, punishing punches he took.

Kennedy was visibly angry about the controversial loss in post-fight video that surfaced, and the middleweight relayed as much in several post-fight interviews. The decorated soldier even said he wasn’t sure when he would fight again, but then later, made it clear he isn’t retiring.

In a follow up interview with My MMA News, Kennedy responded to Sonnen’s comments by calling the retired fighter an “ignorant idiot”, and noted that he was approached by Romero immediately following the defeat, and not vice versa.

The middleweight contender went on to argue that Sonnen maybe “trying to promote a fight in Metamoris and if that is the case I will happily choke him out.”

Kennedy also made these comments to MMA Junkie.com.

The 35 year-old veteran has gone 4-1 in his last five fights, and is currently ranked #7 in the UFC’s middleweight division.
