Report: Urijah Faber and Frankie Edgar Were Approached About Fighting TJ Dillashaw
By FCF Staff
Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber have been booked to fight at UFC Fight Night 61 on May 16th, but according to both fighters, the UFC approached their camps about fighting TJ Dillashaw.
Not long ago, it wasn’t clear who Dillashaw would fight next, since both Dominick Cruz and Raphael Assuncao went down with injuries. Eventually, the UFC signed Dillashaw to rematch Renan Barao on April 25th. But, in the latest edition of “The MMA Hour”, both Faber and Edgar reported that the UFC inquired about whether they were interested in facing the bantamweight champ.
Faber says he turned down the bout since fighting his teammate would have put him in a “hard spot”, and that further, he feels defeating Edgar could put him in line for a title shot at 145.
Edgar, meanwhile, says inquiries were made about fighting Dillashaw before Conor McGregor fought Dennis Siver last month. At the time, Edgar was waiting to see what unfolded in the featherweight title picture, and then the UFC booked Dillashaw-Barao II.
Edgar-Faber will headline UFC FN 61, which will take place in Manila, Philippines.
