By FCF Staff
Veteran fighter and instructor Wyatt Lewis was reportedly killed in Calgary, Alberta, this weekend during an incident around 3:00 AM Saturday. According to a report from the Calgary Herald, Lewis was fatally stabbed after he attempted to defend a friend who had been assaulted with a bottle. The friend of Lewis, who was not named in the report, survived the incident.
The story furthers that Lewis did not know his attackers. The veteran fighter was also an instructor at Progressive Fighting Academy in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Lewis made his pro MMA debut in 2001, when he submitted Justin Livingston at the first Maximum Fighting Championship card. The fighter’s only two losses came against UFC vets Nick Ring and Krzysztof Soszynski.
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt hadn’t fought since July, 2008, when he tapped out Nathan McAllister.
Lewis is survived by his wife and three children.
