Report: Wanderlei Silva Launches Lawsuit Against Nevada Commission

Wanderlei Silva

By FCF Staff

Wanderlei Silva has blasted the Nevada State Athletic Commission on several occasions, and now the fighter has reportedly launched a lawsuit against the organization.

Silva was banned for life by the NSAC last year, after the decorated fighter failed to submit to a random drug test the commission had ordered. At the time, Silva was expected to fight Chael Sonnen at UFC 175 in July, 2014.

The fighter admitted to taking a diuretic in a follow up hearing, but Silva was fined $70,000 and banned for life. Silva’s camp argued the NSAC had no authority to discipline the fighter, however, since he was not licensed to compete in the jurisdiction.

According to a new report from MMA Fighting.com, Silva has filed a lawsuit against the NSAC, which contends the organization had no authority to issue the fighter a lifetime ban. The suit also argues that Silva’s fine and ban was extremely harsh, considering the fighter had never tested positive for any banned substance.

Prior to the NSAC’s disciplinary action, Silva announced he was retiring from MMA, however, recent statements he’s made, and now this lawsuit, seem to indicate he hopes to fight again.
