Report: Wanderlei Silva Pulled From UFC 175 After Failing to Apply for License And Take Random Drug Test
By FCF Staff
The MMA world is still reeling from the news that Wanderlei Silva has been pulled from his UFC 175 bout with Chael Sonnen, and according to one report, his refusal to take a random drug test is one reason why.
On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Silva would not face Sonnen on July 5th as scheduled, due to “licensing” issues. As a result, “The American Gangster” will take on Vitor Belfort, provided the latter can secure a license in Nevada.
According to a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, the NSAC’s Executive Director Robert Bennett relayed that Silva never applied for a license to compete. In addition, sources have told the outlet that Silva allegedly failed to submit a random drug test that was requested by Nevada officials.
The story says that Sonnen complied with the commission’s request and submitted a drug test. The Nevada State Athletic Commission reportedly refused to comment on the status of any drug test request.
UFC 175 will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
