Now that Strikeforce’s November 3rd card will no longer happen, rising heavyweight Daniel Cormier is hoping that his original opponent for the event, Frank Mir, will be ready to fight in January.

Although Cormier hasn’t been confirmed for the promotion’s January event, the undefeated fighter reportedly told AXS TV’s “Inside MMA” program recently that he’s hoping Mir will be ready to compete in the New Year.

Mir was forced to withdraw from their November 3rd bout due to injury, and after middleweight champion Luke Rockhold was also forced off the card, Strikeforce pulled the plug on the event.

Cormier (10-0) is looking to build on an impressive run that includes defeating Josh Barnett in May to win Strikeforce’s Heavyweight Grand-Prix. The decorated wrestler and 33 year-old fighter is expected to move to the UFC after he competes one more time under the Strikeforce banner.

Mir (16-6), who was brought in from the UFC to face Cormier, is coming off a stoppage loss to UFC champion Junior dos Santos in May. The defeat ended the 33 year-old’s three fight win streak which included wins over Roy Nelson, Mirko “Cro Cop” and “Minotauro” Nogueira.

No date or venue has been confirmed for Strikeforce’s January card.

The November 3rd cancellation materialized only weeks after Strikeforce was forced to cancel a September 29th event, after losing headliner Gilbert Melendez to injury.
