RFA 45: Chase Waldon to Face Gerald Meerschaert For Vacant 185 Title

By Press Release

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) president Ed Soares announced today that the RFA will be returning to Minnesota in October with a championship doubleheader set at the top of the card. In the main event, surging powerhouse Gerald Meerschaert will lock horns with fellow top prospect Chase Waldon for the vacant RFA middleweight title. In the co-headliner, longtime RFA fan favorite Dan “The Hitman” Moret will challenge reigning RFA champion Raoni Barcelos for his featherweight crown. RFA 45 – Meerschaert vs. Waldon will take place Friday, October 28th at the Mystic Showroom inside the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The entire main card will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.

“I’m excited to announce that the RFA is bringing two title fights to Minnesota on October 28th” stated Soares. “Gerald Meerschaert and Chase Waldon will fight for our vacant middleweight title in the main event, and Dan Moret will challenge Raoni Barcelos for the RFA featherweight title in the co-main event.”

Tickets for RFA 45 – Meerschaert vs. Waldon are available for purchase now on Ticketmaster.com or the Mystic Box Office at 952-445-9000. You can also support your favorite fighter by purchasing your tickets through CageTix.com/RFA.

Meerschaert (23-8) makes his RFA debut to much fanfare. The longtime Roufusport standout has found his groove in recent years, which has seen him steamroll the competition. Meerschaert has stopped his last four opponents and has gotten his hand raised in eight of his last nine contests. After being a part of newly crowned UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s championship training camp this summer, Meerschaert is now eager to stake a claim as the top middleweight fighter competing outside of the UFC, while also securing championship gold of his own.

“I’m the best middleweight prospect in the world,” Meerschaert exclaimed. “Getting that RFA belt wrapped around my waist on October 28th is just the beginning.”

Waldon (10-1) is also riding a considerable wave of momentum heading into the RFA 45 championship headliner. Waldon made his RFA debut on the heels of a 28-second TKO victory in February. It took him nearly half that amount of time to win his RFA debut in July in the feature fight of RFA 40. Waldon starched his former training partner and fellow top prospect Austen Heidlage in just 15-seconds with a highlight reel KO that is a front runner for KO of the Year.

The co-main event of RFA 45 will feature a title fight between two of the RFA’s longest tenured competitors.

Moret (11-2) will be making his seventh appearance for the RFA, which ties him for second most appearances in RFA history. The promotional mainstay made his RFA debut at RFA 8 in June 2013 and has faced some of the very best featherweights the sport has to offer. However, his next assignment will easily be the most important. “The Hitman” has his set his sights on the RFA champion in a title bout that will take place in front of Moret’s home crowd in Minnesota.

Barcelos (10-1) will be making his sixth straight appearance for the RFA and is looking to secure the most title defenses of any RFA champion after successfully defending his crown at RFA 39 in June. The BJJ black belt will also be competing in a sixth different state in six career RFA bouts making him one of the most recognizable fighters in RFA history.

RFA 45 will also feature the return of RFA fan favorite and University of Minnesota wrestling great Logan Storley (4-0). Storley burst on to the MMA scene last summer after earning his fourth NCAA Division I All-American wrestling honors at the University of Minnesota. In his first eight months in MMA, Storley stopped all four of his opponents via TKO inside the RFA Octagon. On Friday, October 28th, he will return to his college stomping grounds looking to extend that streak, while reminding the world why he is one of the top MMA prospects in the sport today.

The full RFA 45 fight card and further information regarding this event will be announced soon. RFA 45 will be the promotion’s sixth event to take place in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” (Minnesota) and it will be the twelfth RFA event of 2016. The entire main card of RFA 45 – Meerschaert vs. Waldon will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT on Friday, October 28th.
