Rob Font Claims “Nobody’s Dying to Watch Dominick Cruz Fight”, Open to Sean O’Malley
By FCF Staff
Dominick Cruz is widely regarded as one of the greatest bantamweights of all time. But, surging contender Rob Font doesn’t sound interested at all in fighting the former champ next.
Font is coming off a one-sided, decision win over Cody Gabrandt last weekend at UFC Vegas 27, which moved his winning streak to four. More recently, Font spoke with MMA Fighting, and while discussing the possibility of facing Cruz next, he said this.
“Maybe the (Jose) Aldo fight [would interest me],” Font said. “The Cruz one, not so much. He’s nowhere near that belt at all [while] Jose is a little closer. [Dominick] has the name but nobody’s dying to watch Dominick Cruz fight. If anything, I’d probably fight Sean O’Malley before I’d fight Dominick Cruz.”
“That’s the guy (O’Malley) that’s kind of buzzing right now. He’s got that name and I can’t wait for him to fight [next]. Nobody is sitting here dying to watch Dominick Cruz fight. But I’m not gonna lie, I wouldn’t mind watching a ‘Sugar’ Sean fight. I think he’s the bigger name if anything.”
The 33-year-old also added the following, while commenting on possibilities for his next bout.
“Realistically, I would rather wait to see how everything else plays out.”
Font (19-4) is currently ranked #3 in the UFC’s bantamweight division, while Cruz (23-3) is ranked #9. O’Malley (13-1), meanwhile, is not currently ranked in the top 15.
